“Inventing Anna” is a Netflix TV series depicting Anna Sorkin, also known as Anna Delvey. Between 2013 and 2017, she infamously swindled NYC’s highest society, and business investors in her quest to create a foundation in her name. Based on real events, with poetic license, it depicts the actions and behaviors of Anna, who undoubtedly suffers from a personality disorder ( either borderline, or antisocial disorder). The relevance of the series is that it shows how Anna’s deceptive and devious behavior was tolerated and supported by most of all of those she met. And, it shows how it significantly adversely affects them, and lands her up in prison. For me, much of it was difficult to watch, because of her decidedly adverse behavior, how readily people followed her, and how difficult it was for many people to accept the truth that she was a total phony. Although I am not in the “business” of advocating for any TV show, or series, it’s relevance to what is going on in our society today is both profound, and striking. In a non-political fashion, “Inventing Anna” provides an education for us all, and is worth watching.
Peace and stay safe.
