There are many types of strokes. John’s stroke involved the smaller region of the brain responsible for speech and language. It involves his ability to express himself in speaking, but does not effect his ability to think, process information, or make decisions like anyone else.
Also, his stroke was caused by an irregular heart beat known as atrial fibrillation. This is a very common cause of stroke, but is not caused by the much more common cause, “hardening of the arteries”. This means that with medication taken by mouth daily, John’s risk of another stroke is ostensibly the same as if he did not have atrial fibrillation. So he should not have another stroke because of his heart irregularity.
The natural history of stroke of this type is for continued improvement over many months, so his speech will probably continue to improve.
So, although he appears to struggle somewhat with his speech, if you like what he says and stands for, then you can feel comfortable with voting for him.
His speech may not be “slick”, as some have commented, but it’s his stand on the issues that matters.
Peace and stay safe.
